RECOGNITION OF FOREIGN ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

If educational documents have been issued by a foreign institution, they must be formally recognized in the Republic of Lithuania in accordance with the established procedure. In such cases, academic recognition of the qualification is required, as well as the determination of equivalencies of the studied subjects and their assessment within the Lithuanian education system.

Recognition of foreign academic qualifications at the College is carried out by the the Study Department. The aim of the assessment procedure is to determine whether there are substantial differences in the qualification compared to the analogous qualification awarded in Lithuania.

If you apply for admission on the basis of education from abroad, the processing of your application will include assessment and recognition of your educational background. Academic recognition refers to determining the academic value of a qualification, i.e. it determines whether the foreign qualification, in principle, meets general academic requirements for a similar qualification in Lithuania according to the following criteria: contents, profile, quality, workload, and learning outcomes.

  • Recognition of a foreign academic qualification is carried out after the application is submitted to the online application system.
  • All documents issued in languages other than English or Lithuanian should be supplemented with an official translation. Documents issued in English or Lithuanian do not require a translation.

When submitting your application for admission to St. Ignatius of Loyola College via the “Unimetis” admission platform, please ensure that you have attached the following documents:

  1. Documents certifying the foreign qualification or other equivalent documents, as well as the diploma supplement (if applicable) or other equivalent documents certifying the foreign qualification;
  2. A document confirming the applicant’s identity (passport, ID card);
  3. A document confirming a change of name and/or surname, if the educational documents have been issued under a different name and/or surname;
  4. Other documents (if any) necessary for an objective assessment of the qualification, confirming other education obtained by the applicant, explaining the acquired qualification, or additional educational documents submitted.

The qualification evaluator has the right to request additional documents from the applicant that are necessary to properly carry out the qualification evaluation and recognition procedures.

The College has the right to request that documents be legalised.

If there is suspicion that the submitted documents are fraudulent, the application will not be considered.

Recognition decisions

  1. Recognise the foreign qualification.
  2. Recognise the foreign qualification and grant the qualification holder the right to be admitted only to study programmes of a certain field (group of study fields) or only to certain types of higher education institutions.
  3. Recognise the foreign qualification subject to additional requirements (examination(s), additional courses, studies, etc.) that must be fulfilled by the qualification holder.
  4. Do not recognise the foreign qualification.

The decision to recognize a foreign qualification does not mean that you are admitted to studies at St. Ignatius of Loyola College.

The evaluation of a foreign qualification recognition application takes one month.

If the application package is incomplete and/or additional information is required, the applicant will be informed by email. In such a case, the processing of the application will be suspended until the required documents and/or information are provided.

If the required documents and/or information are not submitted within 3 months from the date of receipt of the application, the processing of such application will be terminated.
